Emanuele Antonelli
Emanuele Antonelli was born in Rome in 1990. He has felt a particular attraction towards drawing ever since he was a child, when he started drawing his first doodles. Over the years this passion remained very strong and he continued to indulge it throughout his studies in Hotel Management. These studies led him to travel between Switzerland, Spain and Great Britain, where he came into contact with the artistic life of the cities and stored insights and reflections that he would later pour onto his canvases. After his studies abroad, he decided to return to his hometown, Rome, where he devoted himself completely to art, perfecting the techniques of his doodles. Over the years, Emanuele's interest in art focused on painting, moving on to technical drawing with watercolours and watercolour pens. Emanuele's desire to represent the unseen and states of mind blossomed into abstract painting when he produced his first series of works entitled Time Tickle. Here the artist represents on canvas pixel fragments that refer to real environments and places from his past, but broken down and reassembled. The analysis on memory, its perception and representation continues with the second series of canvases entitled Time Frame. Another food for thought for Ema is aestheticism and its transposition into fashion. It is precisely the depiction of women and men wearing flashy clothes made up of doodles that is the basis of her third and final series Ghirigori People. All the people depicted in this way are smiling and with their eyes closed, giving the viewer a sense of happiness and complicity. These fantastic representations symbolise a personal fulfilment that does not derive from the judgement of others, but from feeling good about oneself, one's own skin and personal taste. This is expressed by the large headgear and striking, uncommon clothes that express a sense of uniqueness. The Ghirigori People series reveals an oriental influence, learnt by Emanuele on his frequent trips to China and Japan, places where, according to the artist, true elegance is present that does not stop at clothes or the way they are perceived, but goes far beyond.
Emanuele Antonelli nasce a Roma nel 1990. Sente un’attrazione particolare verso il disegno fin da bambino, quando inizia a disegnare i suoi primi ghirigori. Negli anni questa sua passione rimane molto forte e continuerà ad assecondarla durante tutto il periodo di studio in Hotel Management. Questi studi lo portano a viaggiare tra Svizzera, Spagna e Gran Bretagna dove entra in contatto con la vita artistica delle città e immagazzina spunti e riflessioni che poi riverserà sulle sue tele. Dopo gli studi all’estero decide di tornare nella sua città natale, Roma, dove si dedica completamente all’arte perfezionando le tecniche dei suoi ghirigori. Negli anni l’interesse di Emanuele per l’arte si focalizza sulla pittura, passando per il disegno tecnico con chine e penne ad acqua. La volontà di Emanuele di rappresentare il non visto e gli stati d’animo sfocia nella pittura astratta quando realizza la sua prima serie di opere dal titolo Time Tickle. Qui l’artista rappresenta su tela frammenti di pixel che rimandano ad ambienti e luoghi reali del suo passato, ma scomposti e riassemblati. L’analisi sul ricordo, la sua percezione e la sua rappresentazione prosegue con la seconda serie di tele dal titolo Time Frame. Un altro spunto di riflessione per Ema è l’estetismo e la sua trasposizione in moda. Proprio la rappresentazione di donne e uomini con vestiti appariscenti composti da ghirigori è alla base della sua terza ed ultima serie Ghirigori People. Tutte le persone così raffigurate sono sorridenti e con gli occhi chiusi, dando allo spettatore un senso di felicità e complicità. Queste rappresentazioni fantastiche simboleggiano un appagamento personale che non deriva dal giudizio degli altri, ma dallo stare bene con sé stessi, nella propria pelle e nel proprio gusto personale. Ciò è espresso dai grandi copricapo e vestiti appariscenti, non comuni che esprimono un senso di unicità. La serie Ghirigori People rivela un’influenza orientaleggiante, appresa da Emanuele nei suoi frequenti viaggi in Cina e Giappone, luoghi in cui, secondo l’artista, è presente la vera eleganza che non si ferma agli abiti o al modo in cui essi vengono percepiti, ma va ben oltre.
